Our Verdict

The Buff Desert Cap is one of the most functional sun hats for hot, exposed trails. The multi-position cape provides excellent protection for the neck and ears, and I appreciate the thought that went into airflow. Overlapping panels and well-placed vents help prevent it from becoming stifling. The fit is secure thanks to the elastic closure, and there’s even a built-in loop to keep your sunglasses in place.

It’s not the most compact piece of headwear, but if I know I’ll be out all day in the heat, this is the cap I want in my kit.
