What are these Ins and Outs of which we speak? Two things really: using it handle-down to break up hard soil and scooping & prying with it the strong way – levering against the spine (logo side), not the other way.

Our Verdict

TheTentLab’s Deuce #1 UUL Trowel isn’t for everyone. It’s made of thinner material than a regular Deuce and it’s very slightly smaller. That’s why it weighs 25% less — guaranteed to weigh no more than 12.8 grams.

Since it’s made out of thinner material, the owner must be the kind of person who learns the ins and outs of their gear and works with it to get the most out of it. For that reason we are calling it FOR FANATICS ONLY. In this case that means they’re committing to using it handle-down regularly and being just a little careful to not over-flex the handle the wrong way. In return they get a mind-bogglingly lightweight piece of gear that is in a class by itself.
