Anyone who’s followed our designs since our start in 2014, knows we think way too much about how to make our Deuce of Spades™ trowels dig poop-holes faster, easier and more efficiently. The main feature upgrade for 2023 is a doozy. We call it the DirtSaw™. It’s a total rethink of how to use a small hand tool to make a hole in the ground.

Our Verdict

The Dirtsaw is the new incarnation of The Deuce of Spades, a tool with a legendary status in the outdoor community. The Dirtsaw is a more gnarled update. It’s an innovative tool for ground excavation (digging a hole to poo in). Its distinctive design, triangular teeth and rounder handle make it much better at digging in challenging terrains like hard dirt, clay, and gravel. Furthermore, the recessed tooth design means getting through tough roots and rocks is easier. It’s an invaluable addition to any kit list; it weighs little and takes up no pack space, a necessity for those who practise Leave no Trace.

• DirtSaw Literally saws the ground – makes fast holes even in hard dirt, clay, even gravel, Obtuse triangular teeth won’t get caught in roots, can’t cut the user’s hand, and doesn’t need to be sharp to work, Use with a rotating back and forth motion on the front corners. • Short Handle – Allows user to exert more force by pushing on the blade’s shoulders with their fingers and the butt of the trowel with their palm, at the same time Vastly better dexterity in deeper holes than longer handled trowels. Makes digging the last two inches much easier and faster  Allows the hole to be smaller diameter which means less
  volume has to be dug
