Our Verdict

The updated Rab Downpour 2.5L Pants strike a smart balance between weather protection, weight, and simplicity. At 261g for a men’s Medium, they’re light but feel robust. The 2.5-layer Pertex Shield fabric sheds rain effectively and breathes well enough for active days without feeling clammy.

The ¾-length side zips work well over boots, and the storm flap keeps things tidy and secure. The fit is relaxed without flapping, and articulated knees give enough freedom of movement for steeper or technical ground. There are no pockets, which I occasionally miss, even if it’s just somewhere to warm hands, but the clean design helps keep bulk and weight down. The lack of a stuff sack isn’t a deal-breaker, but it would have been helpful.
