Tough, stretchy, and built for mountain terrain, these trousers balance freedom of movement with durability. They are ideal for cooler days or mixed-weather trips where abrasion resistance matters more than airflow.

Our Verdict

The Patagonia Terravia Peak Pants feel reassuringly solid, especially through the seat and knees, where the reinforcement is noticeable but doesn’t restrict movement. At 572g (Medium), they’re heavier than many softshell options, but the trade-off is clear: proper protection when scrambling, kneeling or brushing through heather. The articulation is well judged, with a gusseted crotch and shaped legs that allow natural movement even with a harness or full pack.

The removable belt works well, and the integrated cuff hooks are a neat touch for anchoring trousers over boots. The fabric sheds light moisture nicely, but does warm up in direct sun—some ventilation would improve comfort in summer.
