Our Verdict

The Patagonia Black Hole Duffel 70L is a highly durable and eco-friendly gear haulier that lives up to Patagonia’s reputation for quality. With a massive 70-liter capacity made from 100% recycled fabrics, it can swallow a week’s worth of clothing and equipment with room to spare.

The recycled ripstop polyester body has a TPU laminate that is highly weather-resistant, while the padded base protects contents from rough handling. Well-designed features include removable backpack straps, reinforced haul handles, zippered side access, and an interior mesh pocket for organisation. The ability to store the entire duffel bag within its pocket is a clever storage solution, although it may take a bit of practice to master initially.

External daisy chains allow you to lash on even more gear, and the duffel is sized to fit Patagonia’s Black Hole Cubes for streamlined packing. While quite heavy at nearly 1397 grams empty, the Black Hole 70L more than compensates with its bombproof construction.
