The two-piece Escapist Saddle Bag Large comes with an under-saddle holster that prevents sway while the removable, waterproof bag carries bulkier gear. Covered air purge holes vent out pressure and increase compression and stability.

Check the clearance between your rear tire and the seat rails to avoid damaging the product, your bike or yourself. Safe clearance for the Escapist Saddle Bag Large is at least 7 in / 18 cm between the rear tire and the seat rail (see illustration to the right). Measure full suspension bikes by compressing the rear suspension completely, then measuring for safe clearance.

Our Verdict

The Osprey Escapist Saddle Bag is a thoughtfully designed solution for bikepackers seeking a balance between capacity and stability. Its two-piece system comprises a secure under-saddle holster and a removable, waterproof dry bag, ensuring gear remains dry in variable conditions.

The holster attaches firmly to the saddle rails and seat post, minimising sway during rides. An aluminium reinforcement within the holster enhances compression and stability, reducing unwanted movement. 

The 9-litre dry bag is tapered and features an air purge valve, allowing for efficient compression and a more streamlined profile. This design particularly benefits riders with limited clearance between the saddle and rear tyre, as the bag requires less space than larger alternatives. 

While the Escapist Saddle Bag may not offer external bungee cords for additional storage, it’s streamlined design and secure attachment system make it a reliable choice for carrying essential gear on bikepacking adventures.
