The Blue Ice Blackbird is an excellent all-around ice axe for classic mountaineering routes and glacier approaches. Its straight chromoly steel head offers impressive durability and strength for solid placements while keeping weight respectably low between 359-392g depending on length. The hot-forged pick and adze are ergonomically shaped for efficient climbing and chopping.

Small touches like dual-density grip rubber, pick protector, and ability to attach a sliding pommel demonstrate Blue Ice’s experience designing mountaineering equipment.
