Our Verdict

Tough, compact and surprisingly roomy, the updated Svalbard 1 SI (2.0) is a reliable solo shelter for trips where weather protection matters more than shaving grams.

At 1,701g, it’s not ultralight by modern standards, but the payoff is excellent wind resistance, durable materials, and a reassuringly solid pitch. The new version now pitches outer-first—a welcome change that helps keep the inner dry during setup. The two-pole tunnel structure is quick to erect, thanks to the deep pole sleeves, and stable once up, with the new guy lines and larger doorway improving both usability and airflow. It’s now also fully PFC-free, a meaningful step forward regarding environmental impact.

Inside, there’s enough room for a standard mat with additional space at the foot and head for gear. The porch is tight but usable for boots and cooking in bad weather. Ventilation is good, particularly with the rear section rolled up, and condensation has been easy to manage so far.
