The versatility of the Switch stove comes from the unique integrated pot and the multi-functional pot supports. In ‘system mode’, a ring stand supports the integrated Switch pot. Its patent-pending hemispherical bottom is engulfed evenly by the flame, heating quickly and evenly. As an everything-included solo system with a built-in piezo ignitor and cup, it’s lightweight and compact.

With a simple flip of the pot supports, this solo cook system instantly becomes an adaptable stove that can serve more campers or become a gourmet chef’s backcountry kitchen; no accessories needed. In ‘multi-pot mode’, the Switch can accommodate a variety of cookware from larger pots to boil pasta for a group to non-stick skillets for your morning eggs.

Very few stoves in its class include a pressure regulator, making the Switch the most reliable performance option for price-conscious adventurers. The pressure regulator allows the Switch to perform consistently in colder temperatures and at altitude where the competition struggles. It also maximizes fuel efficiency, so you get the most out of each canister.

Our Verdict

The MSR Switch offers a practical solution for solo and small-group cooking, with the standout being its hemispherical 1.0l pot that heats evenly without needing a traditional heat exchanger. I found it boiled 500ml in under 3 minutes, and the built-in pressure regulator gave it consistent output even as temps dipped in the evening. The flip-out supports are a clever touch—they let me swap in a skillet for eggs the next morning without extra faff.

At 392g, it’s not ultralight, but it doesn’t pretend to be. The nested design packs efficiently, and the cork cosy adds a touch of thoughtful sustainability and protects hands from the hot metal. Stability was decent, though it doesn’t lock in like some integrated rigs, so I had to be mindful when stirring.

The Switch hits a smart middle ground for those wanting more freedom than a strict all-in-one, without stepping into full modular territory.
