Our Verdict

The Montbell Travel Umbrella 55 is an ultralight, compact option perfect for travellers who want rain protection without added bulk. At a mere 111g, it’s one of the lightest full-size umbrellas on the market, making it easy to add to any pack or luggage.

Despite its featherweight construction, this umbrella doesn’t skimp on coverage. The 97cm diameter canopy provides ample shelter from rain or sun. The 10-denier Ballistic Airlight polyester fabric with a water-repellent finish ensures quick-drying performance and easy folding.

The 6-rib carbon fibre construction strikes an excellent balance between weight savings and structural integrity. It collapses to a compact 25cm, easily fitting in a jacket pocket or small bag compartment when not used.

I would not use it in place of a dedicated hiking umbrella; this is more of an “in case of emergency” product. Its small size means it can slip into any day bag or handbag.
