Our Verdict

The Montane Tenacity Hoodie is a solid choice when you need more protection than a midlayer but don’t want to commit to a full hardshell. At 520g for a Medium, it’s not the lightest, but it feels built for real use. The GRANITE Stretch fabric is tough, moves well, and cuts wind on exposed ridges while letting heat escape when pushing uphill.

The hood fits cleanly over a cap or helmet and adjusts well without leaving gaps. I like the simplicity of the hem drawcord and cuffs—no unnecessary tweaks, just what works. The two hand pockets sit high enough to be accessible with a harness or hip belt, and the seam placement avoids any pressure points under the straps.
