Our Verdict

The Montane Respond XT Insulated Hoodie is a rugged, high-performance synthetic belay jacket designed to tackle the cold and wet conditions typical of Scottish winter mountaineering. This lightweight yet durable jacket uses Primaloft Silver insulation, ensuring consistent thermal performance, whether damp or dry.

The Respond XT has a fully adjustable helmet-compatible hood with a stiffened peak, which provides excellent coverage and protection. The sleeve articulation enhances comfort during dynamic movements, making it ideal for active mountain use. The hook-and-loop cuff adjustments ensure a secure fit, helping to lock in warmth and keep out wind and rain.

The YKK 2-way Vislon centre front zip allows easy harness compatibility, and the YKK Vislon zipped chest pockets offer quick and secure access to essentials. Additionally, the jacket features YKK reverse coil hand pockets and a fully adjustable hem to minimise heat loss and block out the wind.

It is relatively lightweight and easy to pack. The back length of 74.5cm (in size Medium) ensures adequate coverage, and the mountain fit provides a comfortable and functional silhouette.
