Our Verdict

The 2024 update keeps everything I liked about earlier versions—comfortable stretch, reliable breathability, and quick-drying fabric—but the switch to a partly recycled blend and improved waistband adds to the fit and feel. At 235g (size M), they aren’t the lightest in my drawer, but they strike a solid balance between function and minimalism. The waistband is softer and holds its shape better than before. The integrated belt keeps the shorts firmly in place. 

The 7-inch cut gives good freedom of movement without looking too short, and the pocket layout works: deep hand pockets for on-trail essentials, plus a zip thigh pocket that’s great for stashing a bar or compass without bouncing. The fabric is rugged enough for scrambles, though I’d still watch it in thick brush.
