Leki’s Makalu Series Trekking Poles are the workhorse of the LEKI Trekking and Mountaineering ranges, this particular pair are a combination of folding and Lever Lock adjustment meaning they pack down to a very short 40cm length overall. They are also fitted with Anti-Shock devices which absorb the impact strike of the poles on hard ground.

The Antishock variant is equipped with the DSS damping system, which ensures a reduction in impact to relieve stress on the muscles, joints and ligaments. The newly developed Aergon Air has been improved in countless ways and has been redesigned in terms of comfort and control. Special hollow core technology combines lightweight construction and large, supportive surfaces that meet all the ergonomic requirements of your hand. The back of the Aergon Air grip is fully rubberized for maximum grip and control when going downhill. The inclined angle supports your wrist for optimal guidance and placement of the pole and contributes to safety on the mountain. The Makalu FX Carbon AS provides controlled pole use on the mountain.

Our Verdict

Leki’s Makalu Series Trekking Poles are the workhorse of the LEKI Trekking and Mountaineering ranges, this particular pair are a combination of folding and Lever Lock adjustment meaning they pack down to a very short 40cm length overall – that’s great for travelling.

They are also fitted with anti-shock devices, we are torn as to the benefits of anti-shock trekking poles as there doesn’t seem to be much shock there in the first place, however as always LEKI have come up with a neat and robust mechanism.

The Aergon Air grip is particularly good and the foam extends down the shaft of the pole which is very useful for uphill struggles.
