Gossamer Gears Lightrek Hiking Umbrella is perfect to give sun protection as its reflective silver on the outside and opaque Black on the inside surface. Although ultralight its still a reasonable diameter at 95cm.

Our newest Chrome Umbrella features lighter tips, more compact EVA handle, removed toggle cord lock and added elastic cord with 3M reflective wrist strap, resulting in significant weight savings. Also, the Chrome Umbrella fabric has been updated to PFAS-free.

At only 5.8 oz this umbrella keeps you out of the rain or the sun – thru hiker tested and approved it lowers the feel of the sun up to 15 degrees.

Our Verdict

Umbrellas definitely have their place in the trekking world, they are the most breathable of all waterproofs keeping you dry and comfortable, they are not so useful when the rain is horizontal or its very windy however. Also useful as sun protection, when high altitude trekking it can sometimes be virtually impossible to find shade, which is where a decent umbrella comes into its own.
