Our Verdict

The Hoka Speedgoat 6 Mid GTX is a superb option for hikers seeking a lightweight mid-height boot that combines trail-running agility with hiking durability. Weighing 299g per UK8.5 shoe, it’s impressively light for a waterproof boot. The flexible mid-collar enhances mobility, making it more comfortable for faster-paced hikes or technical trails. But it doesn’t offer the support of a traditional boot; the collar acts more like a gaiter and offers little in the way of ankle support. 

The waterproof GORE-TEX Invisible Fit membrane ensures your feet stay dry in wet conditions without sacrificing breathability, while the Vibram® Megagrip outsole, with 5mm lugs, provides reliable traction on loose or uneven terrain. The protective toe rand and bolstered heel collar offer additional security, keeping your feet protected on rough trails, and the CMEVA midsole with MetaRocker™ technology delivers responsive cushioning for long days on the move.
