Our Verdict

The Paragon 50 carries like a larger pack, but with a slightly trimmer profile that suits shorter trips or more dialled-in loads. At 1570g (S/M), it sits in that comfortable middle ground — not ultralight, but far from cumbersome. The FreeFloat hipbelt moves subtly with your stride, and the breathable back panel did a solid job of keeping things ventilated on long, humid days.

The full-length side zip is a game changer for access, especially when pitching up in a hurry. The hipbelt pockets are roomy, the stretch mesh side pockets easily fit 1L bottles, and the internal compression straps sit neatly under the mesh — a detail I always appreciate. The floating lid can be stripped off to save a bit of weight, though it does house the rain cover, so it’s worth planning ahead if the weather looks dodgy. The single shoulder strap pocket remains useful, but I’d love to see one on both sides.

Paragon 50 handles heavier loads impressively well and remains stable across varied terrain.
