Our Verdict

The 2025 Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 XL tent offers an impressive blend of lightweight design and expanded interior space, making it a top choice for backpackers seeking comfort without added bulk.

Building upon the success of its predecessors, the UL2 XL model incorporates the innovative HyperBead fabric, which is 6% lighter, 25% more waterproof, and 50% stronger than traditional materials. This advancement reduces the tent’s weight and enhances its durability and weather resistance, ensuring reliable performance in diverse conditions.

The “XL” designation signifies a notable increase in dimensions: an additional 15 centimetres in length, 5 centimetres in width, and 7.5 centimetres in head height compared to the standard Copper Spur UL2. This expansion creates a more spacious interior, accommodating taller individuals and providing extra room for gear or movement.

One of the Copper Spur UL2 XL’s biggest selling points is its true rectangular floor, not tapered, and its extra width, which easily fits two 25-inch (63 cm) pads side by side. With more people now opting for wider sleeping pads, it’s great to see a tent design that actually accommodates them.

The tent maintains its user-friendly, freestanding design, featuring dual side-entry doors and awning-style vestibules that offer versatile storage and ventilation options.
